DIY Holiday Decor: How to Save Money and Unleash Creativity

This holiday season was a time of joy, warmth, and celebration. One of the best ways I embraced the festive spirit this year was by decorating my home. With some creativity and planning, I created stunning holiday decor on a budget. In this blog post, we will explore a new lane for me, DIY holiday decor, focusing on saving money while achieving a magical and inviting atmosphere. Inspired by the endless possibilities on Pinterest, we will discuss the importance of planning the theme, selecting a color scheme, and making budget-friendly purchases.

Finding Inspiration on Pinterest:

Pinterest has become a treasure trove of ideas for DIY enthusiasts, which I am NOT, but this year, I did it myself🤣. Pinterest is my go-to, offering a vast collection of holiday decor inspiration, ranging from traditional to modern, rustic to glamorous. I explored different boards and pins to find the style that resonated with me and pinned my favorite ideas to create a personalized mood board as my guide.

Planning the Theme:

Before diving into the DIY process, it's crucial to establish a theme for your holiday decor. My Pinterest board led to A Blush & Bubbles NYE theme. Whether you prefer a cozy rustic cabin feel or a chic and contemporary look, having a clear theme will help you stay focused and avoid unnecessary purchases. Consider the overall ambiance you want to create and let it guide your decision-making process. Once I solidified my theme, I didn't purchase anything unrelated, and I must admit I've never been so focused and narrow in my life when it comes to shopping 🤣.

Selecting a Color Scheme:

Since my theme for the New Year was Blush & Bubbles, I decided on blush, silver, and gold as my color scheme, figuring it complemented the theme. Whether you opt for traditional red and green, elegant silver and gold, or a unique combination, ensure that your chosen colors harmonize with your theme. A well-coordinated color scheme gives your decor a polished and cohesive look.

Making a Shopping List:

With my theme and color scheme established, I began adding items to my cart. I purchased everything from Amazon, so it was easy for me. But if you plan to shop in person, take inventory of the items you already have and determine what you need to purchase before heading to the store. By planning and making a list, you can take advantage of sales and discounts, saving you money in the long run.

DIY Decorations:

Now, the fun part – creating your holiday decorations! Google and Pinterest are your best friends for DIY tutorials and how-to guides. I got creative and solicited my family and friends, and they showed up significantly to blow up balloons, create signage, and more. DIY decorations saved me money and added a personal touch to my home, making it truly unique.

Repurposing and Upcycling:

Consider the potential of repurposing and upcycling items you may already have. Look for old glass jars, wine bottles, or fabric scraps that can transform into beautiful candle holders, vases, or table runners. You can breathe new life into old objects with a bit of imagination, giving them a holiday makeover. I learned that gem from one of my super creative DIY girlfriends.

Time Management:

While DIY projects can be rewarding, they do require time and effort. Plan your projects and allocate specific time slots for each task so you don't get overwhelmed or have a prep party with the girls like I did🤣🥂. Click here to watch the VLOG and see all the fun we had during the prep party.

It's a Wrap:

Decorating your home for the holidays doesn't have to break the bank. With inspiration from Pinterest, careful planning, and a DIY mindset, you can create stunning holiday decor while saving money. Remember to establish a theme, select a color scheme, and make a shopping list before diving into the DIY process. Embrace your creativity, repurpose items, and enjoy the journey of transforming your home into a festive wonderland. Happy decorating!
