Finding your personal style

Owning your look

Confidence

Let's talk about finding your personal style and owning your look. Knowing your unique style can be challenging, especially if you are someone like me who mixes elements from different fashion genres; your style can seem all over the place. Don't worry; your style doesn't have to be defined one way, but narrowing it down can help you save money while shopping. You can become more intentional when shopping for staples to curate a tailored wardrobe.

Identifying your style begins with determining your confidence. I say that because you have to be confident to wear certain things, i.e., you may be a more mature woman with beautiful legs, but you may not be sure enough in yourself to wear frayed jean shorts with blazers, cute tops, sweaters, and heels or ankle bootie. Well, I hope fashion blogger Kyrzayda Rodriguez inspires you 🀩😍. She was (may she rest in peace πŸ™) and still is my style muse, and I love how effortlessly her flyness comes together. If you don't know her fashion style, look her up. These pictures are of her summer streetwear, but she is an all-around fashionist.

I've heard ladies say they are too old for this, or they don't look right in that, you may even have a million reasons in your head why these looks wouldn't work for you, and that's fine. You have to own it; that takes confidence. We'll get there together.πŸ’• Achieving the look with skinny jeans, skirts, or a longer pair of shorts as an alternative may work better for some.

Silhouette

Knowing your body type and the silhouettes that work for you are essential. You may have seen different body types illustrated online; Healthline's depiction below is pretty clear but check out their Women’s Body Shapes article for a deeper understanding of the measurements and what determines the body shape.

Understanding which shape best represents you makes shopping for dresses, skirts, jeans, and jumpers easier. For example, If you are shopping for a pleated A-line skirt and your shape is more of a pear or round, a midi-length skirt may be best versus anything shorter. This way, your lower curves are not highlighted negatively.

Colors

Adding color to your style is fun but intimidating when you don't know how to pair colors. A quick tip: pair colors opposite on the color wheel, and you will be good to go. Depending on your skin tone, some colors may work better than others. As you play around with color, it will become more evident, and you will feel it. But, if you are afraid of jumping on the color wheel, black is always a safe, solid, and slimming option. Slowly add more whites and nudes to brighten things up; once you are comfortable with that, try going bolder. Green has been my go-to pop of color, but lavender is a trending color for this Spring, and it's softer and works with many other shades. I'm going to toy around with more color monochromatic looks. Stay tuned.

In summary, finding your style takes you being confident and owning your look. Know your body shape so that you can wear silhouettes that complement you. Know your tones; colors are your friend when paired best for you. Let me know if this is helpful. Time for me to reset my style! πŸ˜‰
